As the host gallery of Art Weekend Belgrade, Gallery Grad will be presenting a special pop-up exhibition fragmentARTy – A glimpse into the Belgrade art scene aimed at giving the guests and the audience an opportunity to glimpse into the work of some of the artists who have presented their projects over the decade of Gallery Grad’s active participation on the art scene in Belgrade. Gallery Grad has been founded ten years ago on the need of a new art space for emerging artists to show in Belgrade. Ever since then the main self prescribed goal for the gallery team was to help those young creatives get launched on the art scene. Similarly Art Weekend Belgrade’s self prescribed goal is to launch the entirety of this small, but vibrant art scene onto the international stage, and to achieve this the guests are invited to meet the protagonists, their pieces as well as the key art spaces all over Belgrade
Titled fragmentARTy, this unusual exhibition is a puzzle-like set up of pieces created and shown in the gallery over the years. Gallery Grad has been dissecting the art scene, unveiling the emerging, still unknown artists, and this pop-up exhibition aims at reconstructing that dissection and present very diverse artworks which were key to the creation of exciting and unrepeatable exhibition seasons in the past decade. From artists who presented and grew together with the gallery like Nataša Kokić, Marija Maksimović, Nikola Radosavljević, to the ones who recently debuted, Stanislav Drča, Izabela Mašić and Nađa Kračunović who has just ended her first solo show in Gallery Grad, fragmentARTy will glimpse into some of the special group exhibitions produced over the years with some artists already established like Melissa E Logan, Aleksandar Maćašev and Daliborka Đurić, but also glimpse into the future of this season with Dejan Krstić Hiraku Nebojša Yamasaki Vukelić and Miloš Gavrilović. The multimedia puzzle of fragments may seem confusing at first sight, but it is intended for a closer inspection, upon which, every artwork becomes a conversation piece for the audience and the artists.
With all the creators present, fragmentARTy should offer a spontaneous and relaxed artist talk instead of official guided tour, and the guests are to select the artwork(s) and the artist(s) they most get drawn to and discover their research and inspiration directly. The fragments may not come into a cohesive whole, but that is not the point of this pop-up exhibition since it is just an introduction into the art scene of Belgrade, and everything is to be continued in the next editions of Art Weekend Belgrade.
